Memories of My Journeys

online exhibition

A world of exploration–– where art becomes a passageway to distant lands, unseen wonders, and inner landscapes of discovery. Memories of My Journeys is an exhibition celebrating the art of journey and wanderlust, inviting you to experience the spirit of adventure through the eyes of artists who transform travels, memories, and places into profound visual narratives. In this collection, each piece is a unique map of

exploration—some documenting the textures of faraway cities, others capturing the serenity of quiet landscapes, while some reflect the journey within. Each uncovering the emotions and realizations encountered along the way. From vibrant markets and misty mountain trails to imagined realms that exist only in dreams, the works in Memories of My Journeys traverse an eclectic mix of real and imagined spaces.

Delicate nuance of value and texture become tools in conveying powerful dramatic statements about earthly

beings who are not afraid to wonder, think, dream, and take that one step beyond. The inhabitants of the cosmic atmosphere appear at odds with their surroundings (many of which are actual, specifically named astronomical objects). This is the result when the merely earthly confronts its unavoidable connection to the awe, mystery, and majesty of the heavens. However, when fragile earthly beauty confronts sublime heavenly beauty, the earthly is reverently and silently humbled.

This in-progress body of work explores the reversion of stylized 3D digital aesthetics to analog as a means of questioning who is augmenting who in reality-informed generative design and how the greater role technology plays in our lives the further removed from nature, sense of place, and self we become. Images of nature are embellished with synthetic biomorphic constellations creating hybrid objects as if souvenirs from instantly obsolete geologies in the vastness of simulated architypes occupying the space between captured reality and imagined journeys.

My artwork is highly influenced by Surrealism. In 2020 I moved onto exploring the full body and its context. My visual expression evolved into a subtle erotic and elusive representation of femininity. The female figure is stylized and repeated in various paintings in size and surroundings. The process of creation is guided by the artist`s dreams, a merely intrinsic perception of the Self, the world and the universe. The process is guided by my visions and dreams. I paint fragmented worlds and dreamlike non-existent places. Some recurring  elements are portals, candles, steps, hanging bridges, etc. which create a cryptic narrative perceived on a subconscious level. This evokes an engagement with the viewer and explores their emotional association with the painting. Like in a dream my paintings have many translucent layers and evolve during the artistic process. Watery shiny acrylic paint saturates the surface to create an emotive environment with deep psychological metaphors.

Calle de las Escalinatas, 2024

Gouache and Casein
13" x 33"
$1,450

Every city built on hills has stairways; and every stairway has magic. For me, home is the San Francisco Bay Area, where hundreds of stairways lead up and down the rolling hills. Last year, my temporary home was Madrid, where stairways with hundreds of years of history took me from one vibrant street to another. My stairway paintings travel along these stairway paths, carving them out with crooked angles, curves, light and shadow, and warm, happy colors. In the spirit of Picasso and David Hockney, these works explore how to paint the journey of a city walk. They show a stairway not as if the viewer were staring at it from just one point—an artificial view—but as we experience it: walking up the path, looking left, looking right, glancing back down; taking in the broad view, and admiring each petal on a flower.

Our life's journey is unfolding ahead, and I invite you to explore, wonder, and anticipate. I am a California-based abstract artist focusing on the journey through life. I've always been creative, and I began my career in corporate commercial roles, solving problems in the chemical industry. My broad life experiences coalesce in my artwork, with expressive energy and expansive marks that stretch beyond the canvas. Through colors, textures, and contrasts, I demonstrate how my journey has not been a straight line. True to my life, my artwork is filled with strong contrasts. Bold lines and dynamic movements are juxtaposed with quieter, more reflective spaces. I blend earth tones with lush greens and tranquil blue hues, capturing the essence of my home in California. My story is woven into each piece. Every mark suggests a larger story, inviting optimism to new experiences and opportunities.

At Home in the World, 2020

Mixed Media on Wood Base
20" x 26" x 2.5"
$600

I taught digital art at two different universities for 25 years. I was always frustrated by the fact that nothing on a computer is tactile. It can be simulated but it's not real. I so missed working with texture that, upon retirement, I decided to concentrate exclusively on analog art, creating texture with compounds of various type, but also by building up shapes one on top of another. Color is also very important to me but my first priority is creating the under or overlying textures. Inspired by the ancient cultures of Mexico, my adopted country, my work explores  pre-Hispanic iconography and reflects the textures and colors of the colonial buildings and indigenous ruins I see around me. By combining paper, manufactured in the same way since before the conquest, with more modern substances, such as 2-part resin, transfers, acrylics, and plaster, I hope to keep alive public awareness of native history and pay homage to the ancient souls whose presence I feel around me.

Relinquishment of Flesh and Spirit, 2022

Acrylic on Wood

35" x 27" x 0.75"
$1,850

My creations capture a deep sense of restoration and regeneration in the face of life's trials and tribulations. Each piece takes the viewer on a journey through the turning points of an individual's subconscious, revealing the beauty and resilience of the human condition. The work is a testament to the power of transformation and growth. Through a keen attention to detail and a skillful use of color and form, they invite the viewer to witness the profound changes that can occur within the human psyche. With a unique perspective that is both intimate and universal, my work speaks to the human experience in all its complexity. From moments of profound joy to periods of deep introspection, the art is a celebration of the human spirit and its capacity for renewal. Whether viewed as individual pieces or as part of a larger body of work, the art is moving and inspiring tribute to the power of the human journey.

Embellishment Intimacy #6, 2022

Micron pen on paper

12" x 9"
$1,250

Creating a sense of intimacy with natural forms and ornamentation is the driving force behind my pen and ink

drawings and watercolor paintings. My definition of natural forms encompasses plants, human beings, and animals. Studying the diversity of organisms on our planet evokes within me an attraction to fantastical and otherworldly imagery such as hybrid beings. In my view, a hybrid being is a living composite of multiple life forms such as fairies, centaurs, and angels. I view nature as an enchanting place, and I seek to magnify this perception through creating new types of plants and creatures. By combining nature and ornament, two different visual dialogues emerge. The realistic representations of life forms communicate spontaneity, as nature grows unpredictably. On the other hand, the decorative components embody repetition and idealization. Thus, I seek for my work to be a union between realism and idealism, as well as spontaneity and recurrence.

Sunrise over the Okavango Delta, 2023

Soft pastels

8" x 10"
$200

My mission for my art is to Do Good (through) Art by creating the best art I can and by donating 100% of the net proceeds of all sales to charity. My current focus is supporting the American Cancer Association's efforts to eliminate cancer as this is a cause close to my family's heart. I often take inspiration for my art from my travels whether it be hiking in the foothills and mountains around my home, throughout the US, or across the globe. My pieces often include landscapes that highlight sunsets, clouds, and the interplay of light on water. That said, I have diverse collections including landscapes, sunsets, water (oceans, rivers, lakes), National Park inspired works, and flowers. My primary medium is soft pastels, but I also do watercolors and colored pencil pieces.

Voyage De Sabur, 2024

Mixed Media

60" x 48" x 1.18"
$6,600

My art serves as a bridge between the tangible and the transcendental, weaving vivid narratives from fragments of memory, heritage, and inner exploration. "Voyage De Sabur" embodies a deeply personal journey toward peace and self-discovery, drawing from the wisdom of my Bosnian roots and the universal resilience of the feminine spirit. Through layered textures, dynamic movements, bold colors, and elements of traditional script, I create a dialogue with viewers, inviting them into an introspective exploration of patience, strength, and transformation. Each brushstroke captures the essence of the journeys I have lived, offering a map to navigate the intersections of identity, time, and emotion.

Partly Saharan, 2019

Laminated Mixed Media on Mylar

30" x 26" x .75"
$1,495

I want to create something tangible out of the hidden and non-verbal places within me. I try to capture the elusiveness of the moment -using marks, imagery, & materials from my African, South Asian, and Middle Eastern travels, textures from natural fibers, fabric, and found materials, in my mixed media art and sculptures. I like both vibrant & earthy colors, plus elements that elicit the powerfulness and potential of the human mind. I love the complexity of combining seemingly incongruous elements made by both man and nature. Recently I've been creating hangings and 3D art that comment on ancient cultures and their influence on our past and present.

Acrylic on canvas

When I am working or starting a new series, I am aware of the path of work I've done before. Sometimes I wish to not repeat so I am actively in a state of alertness. I will try placing unusual color mixes adjacents. The result must please me first. As a painter my job is have only one thing in mind, and that is culling the composition and design out from the dark.

60 Years, 2023

Mixed Media on yupo paper

78" x 60" x 1"

Liminal space... the world in between - between a world I live in and a world I listen to, that has always been what has driven my imagery. Since I read Edna St Vincent Millay's poem Renascence, the place in between life's state of being and how we treat the other, has been an internal focus. In recent years, finally being able to work in my studio full time, the connection has become deeper and stronger. Investing time in understanding the travails of the other, has consumed my emotions and driven my imagery. Watching the world move from continent to continent, seeing humanity being uprooted as they seek a solid resting place makes my landscapes evolve. The branches, the thickets, the thorns reveal the human tales. As I work on Yupo paper, an unstable ground in itself, the moving ink and moving graphite speak to those emotions. Knowing that I can erase the entire picture plane with strokes of water and ammonia relates to what is happening in the human landscape as it transforms.
